Help for Games
You know, I get a LOT of request for help setting up games, running it, joystick questions, controls etc etc.
So much so, that at this point in time, I feel that I must make this page to deal with this problem.
Before you write to me asking for help, have you done the following:
- Read the instructions that come with the game
- Tried to contact Tech support of the respective game makers
- Ensured you ran the game in PURE DOS mode (if it's a DOS game) instead of a shortcut in Win95
- Made a boot disk
If not, please don't write to me. You will be surprised at HOW MANY email I get every single day asking me the same questions.
All these questions can easily be answered by reading the proper documentation that comes with the game. I am not Tech Support. I made
these web pages becos I love the games but if I keep getting these kind of emails I may as well give up the web pages.
One special issue I feel I need to highlight here:
DOS Games are meant to run in DOS.. that is why they are DOS games. Otherwise, they would be known as Win95 games.
If you feel that you are too lazy or find it too troublesome to run DOS games in a Single DOS Application mode, then you shouldn't be
buying DOS games in the first place. If you need help to get Win95 into DOS mode, follow this sequence:
START BUTTON -> SHUTDOWN -> RESTART IN MSDOS MODE.
There, simple isn't it?
For further help, read your Win95 docs on how to get your CDROM and Mouse drivers etc configured. Also read your game install instructions
on the same thing.
Keyboard commands in games
For people who "mysteriously" lost their keyboard reference card and/or manuals to their games, all I can say is "Write to the respective
game makers and ask for a replacement". I am definitely not going to type out the entire keyboard command reference just becos you lost
them (or most likely, didn't even buy the original games in the first place). Do you know how many keys EF2000 alone uses? Practically
the whole keyboard, including SHIFT and ALT!
There, I've finally gotten it all off my chest. Now, the next time I get another email that should be directed to tech support, I will reply with only
one line - "contact Tech Support". Forgive me for being blunt and seemingly rude but I've had enough.
However, I'm still open to questions that are GAMEPLAY related, ie "How do I get past that bad ugly enemy in mission 14?". I'd be happy to
answer those though. It's just the "Tech Support" questions that I'm sick of. Hell, Tech Support of these companies should pay me for doing
their work for them for the past year! :)
