Nice and cozy was the first impression. No screaming hordes of "foreign talent" women accosting you. You can slowly pick a table, sit down, and take your time to order and do stuff. Waitresses there are friendly (not in the touchy-feely kinda way, which is GOOD), and, if you suck at Chinese, you'll soon brush up on it if you keep going there heh! Yeah the waitresses are, from what I hear, all from China. That doesn't mean they don't understand English - don't think you can talk to your friend in English and they won't understand that you had just commented that she has big boobs *wink*. If you wanna do it, speak in Hokkien (important tip). Sometimes I find it strange that the majority of people from China (not just women) don't understand Hokkien, which technically is a dialect from China in the first place.
The music prior to the start of the "karaoke" session was cool - contemporary dance. Not really trance, but nice, danceable music. Too bad it's a pub not a club. When the karaoke DID start, it wasn't too bad at all. People there actually sing IN TUNE, so the ears weren't tortured. Yes I have had my ears tortured in numerous other places, especially at my old haunt (which closed down, hence the need for a new one). And oh, for all you people who sings karaoke at pubs, here's an advice from someone who has heard them all - "Singing louder doesn't make you sound better ok? It just makes you suck louder".
The high stool wasn't very comfortable though, cos one of the waitresses who accompanied us playing dice games had to stand up after sitting down too long, saying her butt hurt... hehehe! I dunno, I felt fine. Then again, I have a big butt and therefore, more meat to cushion me.
Oh almost forgot - there's a pool table there too. I am not interested in pool so that wasn't an important requirement for me. For those who need a pool table at their favourite hangout, yeah there's one here too, and it's not very busy. I suppose you could probably play pool at almost any time you'd like to.
A worthy alternate venue, in my opinion.
