Heh no I'm just kidding. The Oblivion I'm talking about is the game by Elderscrolls. Oblivion is their 4th in the series, and many consider it to be a sequel to Morrowind. However, technically it's not true - it may be set in the same world of Tamril as Morrowind, but it's definitely a separate game altogether.
Here's an example of the graphics you can expect from Oblivion. Jaw-droppingly cool huh? And get this - this is one of their earlier screenshots, ie when the game was in early development stages.
Much touted this time around is their "Radiant AI" engine, the thing that makes their NPCs seem more "natural and lifelike". Still, there are people saying that they aren't that much of an improvement. However, if you're like me, you might spend some time wandering around in the world and just observing them. They might exhibit behaviours that will amaze you. There was this story about how, during development, one of the programmers tested the Radiant AI thing on a city guard. The guard got hungry, tried to buy food, but he didn't have money. So he decided to go hunting for meat. Other guards in the area caught him hunting the Emperor's deers in the forest, so he was caught and thrown in jail.
Now I'm not too sure if this was a success or a failure of the AI but it sure is damn funny :)
I can't wait. It's due to be released on Monday, US time. That means Tuesday here in Singapore. I sure hope Techdrome will bring it in, and not leave me hanging like they did with EQ2's Kingdom of Sky expansion.
